Continued support in the pipeline
Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) manages and operates the gas distribution network across Scotland and southern England.
With over 74,000 kilometres of pipelines, it is responsible for network repairs, upgrades, and emergency responses, while also investing in green energy solutions such as hydrogen projects to reduce carbon emissions.
In the gas industry, automating and managing the safe distribution of natural gas is critical. Process control systems are at the core of this, regulating gas flow, monitoring safety, and responding to issues quickly. This ensures reliability, minimises human error, and keeps operations compliant with industry regulations.

Ian from Kirkton Controls, commented: “SGN operates across a wide range of environments, from busy urban areas to remote rural locations, each with its own challenges. Our telemetry control panels help their engineers monitor and manage these systems from anywhere. The collaborative approach with SGN led to continuous improvements from the project’s inception to its successful installation. We continue to provide support to ensure the system’s smooth operation.”

Jonathan Wan, senior project manager at SGN said: “Kirkton are one of our trusted delivery partners with a professional and helpful culture. They have been fantastic to work with on our recent Offtake and SIU upgrade projects and have always put the customer first.”
